An “Emphasized Waist” became a noted theme, from cummerbunds to scarves tied around the hips to rope and drawstring details. “Brooches” remain a strong statement, from small dangling jewels at Dolce & Gabbana to floral explosions at Dior Men. Designers are also “amping up their denim designs”—bedazzling, bleaching, and distressing. “Mellow Yellow” emerged as a perfect antidote to a gloomy world. “Big, Baggy, Below-the-Knee Shorts” are happening, spotted both on runways and in front rows. “Dainty Little Shoes” evolved, from smooshed monkstraps at Celine to ankle lace-up slippers at Dries Van Noten to dainty opera pumps at Ralph Lauren. “Louche tailoring” and “twisted takes on denim” rounded out the season’s defining looks.
